Our Dank Fox Valley picnic 2005 was held on June 11, again at the
beautiful Schrant farm. Some board members arrived early to set
up our tent and organize the ample quantities of refreshments and
food. The Wurst Kitchen supplied about 70 various brats and hot
dogs, along with a huge bowl of chicken salad and ten pounds of
potato salad. Virtually all this food was consumed by about 30 adults
and ten children in a matter of hours!
The weather cooperated for most of the day, allowing everyone to
join in playing volleyball, jumping on a trampoline, riding on a
4-wheeler or motorized scooter, or just watching the horses and
enjoying each other's company. We had a bit of unusual excitement
as a squall came through, lasting about 20 minutes. The wind was
strong enough to have many people holding down the tent. Our host,
Helmut, prepared as ever, quickly brought out some strong tie-downs
to stabalise the tent. Several people, including myself, were drenched,
but the storm was over as quickly as it started and the sun and
gentle breeze allowed everything to dry within a few minutes.
It was well into the night before the last of us went home. Thank
you again, Helmut and Margaret!
