|
|
By Willi Gohs On October 2, 2005, Dank Fox Valley Chapter participated in a Children's Oktoberfest at the Glenwood School on Silver Glen Rd. in St. Charles. The festival was organized by the Glenwood School and Sheila Leucht, Director of Development at DayOneNetwork, a fund raising organization. Also taking part were River Radio Broadcasting and the Milwaukee Donauschwaben Dancers. Members of Dank Fox Valley were dressed in Bavarian costumes to give the festival a more traditional German atmosphere as they greeted children, parents and visitors at the school's entrance and directed them to the parking area. Activities of the day included a water-duckie game, bucket toss, hayride, bean bag toss, obstacle course and soccer goal-shooting. Prizes were also given out to the children. Everyone also enjoyed a tasty meal consisting of brats, potato salad, hot dogs, chips, homemade cookies and various soft drinks. Dank Fox Valley, in conjunction with the South Elgin Chamber of Commerce also stages the valley's largest Oktoberfest each September, held in Elgin. The chapter takes pride in being active in and giving back to the communities in the valley in various ways.
